Canon 60D Questions...

So I bought the Canon 60D and I also bought a variety of different lenses for it. I want to find a book on my camera that will explain lighting, the different scene selections stuff like that. I have been taking pics for a long time now and I seem to be getting better but I feel like me not knowing the full potential my camera has is slowing me down and my pictures can be even better! I also have been trying to look for a specific lens and I am not sure what it is called I want to say it's a Wide Angle which I have but when taking a pic for example of a chicken close up it looks more in your face and the back ground is pushed way out...hard to explain....hope some of you can answer these for me lol.....

I think what you're looking for might be the Canon EF-S 10-22mm

Rather than a book specific to your camera, you'd be better served by a book on photography fundamentals. I recommend "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. It'll teach you what the important settings on your camera are, and how to use them to get the full potential out of your camera, and take better pictures. Besides, you already have a book specific to your camera, it's called the owners manual. If there are things in the manual (which I'm sure you've read, right?) you don't understand now, after reading "Understanding Exposure" you will. It's an easy read geared towards beginners, and while it won't have you "shooting like a pro in no time", it will put you firmly on the path to developing your skills.

As far as the lens question, by "pushed way out", do you mean out of focus? If so, any lens with a wide max aperture, like 1.4 or 1.8, will get you that look. Of course, all of that will be explained in the above mentioned book.

In the mean time, if you're serious about learning, google "exposure triangle", "aperture", "depth of field". These things will also put you on the right path.

the way you described it, it sounded to me like you meant a fisheye lens.

There is a book called the Canon EOS 60D digital field guide. I own this, although, I cant say I have actually read the whole book lol. I have skimmed through it though, and looked up a few things. This might be a book to look into.

I bought the 60D for Dummies book and also a book related to general exposure for DSLR for Dummies. Very happy with both books.
