it also looks like theres a second catchlight in her eye cam left that i find a bit distracting.
your work looks pretty good here. the makeup around her eyes seems a bit "cakey" for lack of a better word...but again...thats not you.

im interested in the answer to this...
all i can tell is that the primary light is raised, dead center (6 o'clock?), and angled down slightly...
i have NO idea what its called...

It's a good example of "butterfly lighting." Often used in fashion. Not often a good choice for average looking people. Gets it's name from the butterfly shaped shadow under the nose.

Yup...classic butterfly lighting. Sometimes called glamor lighting.

Besides the signature butterfly shadow, also look for the transition from light to shadow to appear from the cheek bones down to jaw line.

Not a single light scheme, as there is a fill light. But YES... you have the placement of the main light correct.

Butterfly can be done with a single light and a reflector as well.

It appears there is more involved here though. The models top left (photographers right) side of her head has a heavy source as well. Perhaps either a spill from a background light or an intentional hair light.

Agreed on the stray hairs. Personally, I'm not a fan of the MUA's work. The light in use is well balanced however.

Butterfly can be done with a single light and a reflector as well.

Of course... as can short lighting and broad lighting and split lighting.

But these terms all refer to placement of the main light, not ratio.

Reflectors are light sources.
