FINALLY a good DxOMark rating system review

Eh the problem with DxO is that most people only like them when they talk nice about the camera(s) they own. [...]
Err, no ? I own a D600, which tests pretty well on DxO. Yet I am critical of DxO, because the shortcomings are all too obvious.

I like DXomark. I think if everyone read it before buying a DSLR, canon would go belly up. Their tests highlighttbe superiority of nikons sensors. They recently rated the new 7d equal to the 5 yr old d300s.
A camera is more than just a sensor.

Canon has superior autofocus, superior ergonomics, superior video, and some superior offerings (such as their tilt/shift, their supermacro etc).

Nikon has superior sensor, superior flash, and maybe overall slightly lower prices.

Are D300 really that bad? I mean if that's the case why would anyone go with Nikon if they are really that shockingly poor. I mean yeah they might be doing ok now, but I can't help but feel that its a fluke ;)

Most Nikon users forget they were helped by Sony when Nikon sensors were crap in low light

Doesn't matter how, why, or when the Nikon sensors got better (substantially better), they are better.
Only at very high ISO they are not better than my A7

Not talking about sony.

Opinion mostly. Sacrificing image quality so you can have a ts lens is a questionable decision at best.

Image quality on Nikon is no better than Canon photography is about light not darkness

From the test images I've seen from a few of the beta reviewers, I'm not at all surprised with the comparison to the D300.

I remember one reviewer being completely ecstatic that he can finally shoot at ISO 1000. I think that says a lot. I remember having that problem back in 2007 when that D300 sensor was released.

Interesting. Maybe everything is relative to Canon and they think as long as they improved then they've done their job. I know with my 7d, anything over ISO 400 required heavy noise reduction in post.

The sensor records light. Nikon does it better.

Rubbish

I just chatted with our local pro photographer. He shoots Canon 5dm3. He bought a 7dm2 and wants to send it back. He didn't like the noise, colors, wb, etc compared to his 5dm3.

I didn't have a chance to chat with him much as he was busy, and he didn't seem very technically into the whole thing. He just wants a camera that works, and works as good or better than what he currently uses.

That seems to be the way I'm seeing it develop [pun intended]. On paper, it seems to be on par with the 5DMii.

When relative to any of the current Nikons, it's no better. It seems like Canon is unable to get above 12EV when it comes to DR, where all the Nikons are breaching 14EV--This is what's really causing it to score low.

But it's much better than the D300s above ISO200.

So he wanted his crop frame to work better than his full frame in those areas - at half the price? Me too. @ Astro :)

Your argument? I agree.

The fact is, Nikon sensors are better. If you have some proof otherwise, serve it up.

The camera is just a tool and if there is a tool behind the camera no camera will take a good shot
