What's new

First pics from my new camera

I get vertical grid lines on my DSLR when I view the histogram normally - I shoot canon but I've never been led to think that other brands didn't have the gridlines to show the variation over the graph. Maybe its hidden in a menu option that has to be enabled?

Must be a Canon thing then. I've never even seen it on any software.

You sure about that?
Wider aperture would slow shutter speed but with the benefit of larger DOF.

Wider aperture will increase shutterspeed and narrow DOF.
Bah, got my terminology mixed up again. You're right.

The shots are made with a D5100 at ISO125. Increasing the ISO even several stops isn't going to create issues with 'grain'.

A. I'm at work and can't view the EXIF data

B. I'm talking in general, not specifically in this instance.

How about these? I ramped the ISO up to 1600, the histogram looks more like what Overread described, got him all in the frame, and I even got him to pose a little. :D

Second one says ISO 2500...

No worries. It was obvious distracted thinking. I agree, in general terms noise becomes more noticeable.

These look much better.

Oops, yeah I was experimenting with the ISO and took many pictures. I thought both of the ones I selected were 1600. :blushing:

I like the pose in the second one better but the higher ISO has reduced the color depth.

You should certainly get yourself a shoe-mounting flash Netskimmer, with a tilt head so you can bounce the light from above.
