Handheld with my 100mm macro. I'm not very steady at these slower shutter speeds, and only got about 3 that were even "fairly" sharp. I'm definitely going to have to use the tripod more!

What was your shutter speed? and why slow?

I was shooting at f/11 on most shots, anything lower the dof is really shallow and only a fraction of the image is in focus. Also, instead of using my speedlite and small softbox that I'm used to, I was trying out the new macro ring-lite and wasn't too familiar with the power settings I should use. Plus it was a heavy overcast day. Any help and/or tips appreciated!!

ETA: The images are on my desktop, not sure of the shutter speed on this one. Probably somewhere between 1/40-1/80.

Actually, the biggest problem was the wind. Those little flowers sure do move around a lot when it's windy LOL!!

the most of the language you used here is not familiar to me so I really can't help, but I hope someone who knows macro will ;)
I know I like the flower though :)

Yes the wind is a problem. I was trying to take a photo of a flower and I had to take 20 shots as the flower would just bounce all over the place.

Pretty flower, good shot.

No help on your light ring though.
I like overcast days as the bright edgy sun isn't there. I've tended to now go out early in the morning before the sun gets too high up.

Using a 100mm Macro, especially on aps-c bodies, you really have to use a tripod for consistently sharp results. Overcast is actually good, as it gives a nice even light and assures you don't blow out the highlights- and you can shoot any time of day. I sometimes use a piece of cardboard or foamboard to block a slight breeze when shooting macros- works pretty well. If you were using a ring-lite, why weren't your shutter speeds higher? I really like to do macros early or late in the day, or with overcast/shadow. I make artificial shadow occasionally with a portable sun shade. Also if it's windy, I head to the nearest Mex restaurant and kick back. :D

WIND sucks...hehe If I really want to play around and it's a bit windy, I use a piece of cardboard to shield the area. Now, sometimes that creates other problems like...shaded areas. Just keep playing with the cardboard till you figure out what you want. Hope that helps!

I always found the most interesting flower shots have smaller DoF. We see flowers all the time, so they are tricky to take interesting pictures of. IMHO =)

Of course, this just skirts around the fact that you obviously built your macro lens from sort of Himalayan magic dust kit, doesn't it?

I sprinkle pixie dust on my macro lens...hehe

......... If you were using a ring-lite, why weren't your shutter speeds higher.....?
If I answer that, I'll expose myself for the 'tard I am! Hee hee.......... I tend to forget that when using flash, I cannot pay attention to the exposure simulation in the camera's light meter. You know, centering it. I need to crank the shutter speed to the left on my Canon, all the way to 250.

Oh, I thought maybe you have an LED ring-lite. A strobe should pretty much freeze the movement anyway. Try mishele's narrow DOF suggestion- it makes macro much more fun! Doubtful that she'll share her pixie dust sources, though... :(
