I'm trying to figure out what I want. I think the square ones that can be adjusted are my preference, rather than the screw on kind. Even so, I am open to the plusses and minuses of each, and especially the recommended brands. I am having difficulty figuring out what brands are recommended for the square kind. Thanks.

Good questions. I really hope that someone responds to the round that you screw on vs square that uses a holder one as I am putting filters on my wish list and can't decide which way to go.

The screw on kind must be less flexible to use, but there are a lot of them on the market. Derrel confirms what I have seen...a lot of the square ones are very expensive.

Cokin is the lowest cost, and works better than many people would have you believe. Singh Ray Singh-Ray Filters: Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density Filters

and Lee Neutral Density Graduated Filters (ND Grads), and ND Standards in Resin and ProGlass from LEE Filters

make really GOOD square and rectangular filters, but they cost much more, and Lee is a tiny company with a small shop and seems to have almost zero ability to keep products on the shelves or in the warehouses of its dealers.

Derrel - Those Singh-Ray filters aren't too pricey. It looks like they will fit on the Cokin holders. In your opinion is the quality between Cokin and Singh Ray worth the difference in price?
