Guyz, I need your urgent advice on this.

hello friends.. i am a newbie in the world of photography.. though i have been fascinated by photography all my life i could not pursue it because of financial constraints.. now finally, i am going to buy a camera for myself... so i need your advice on which one to buy. should i go for an SLR or for a bridge camera.. i am quite liking the Sony HX100v cam.. howz it ?? is it good enough ??? i would also like some of my photos to have that blurry background / background defocused effect.. is that possible only on SLRs or DSLRs ???

Blurred image can be achieved by a mobile phone camera, but...

Good enough for what? What are your plans? What is your budget? DSLR/SLR is better in every aspect (image quality, versatility...), but it's more expensive. If you can afford it and like photography, I wouldn't think of anything different.

The "blurry background / background defocused effect" is obtained by using a shallow depth-of-field (DOF). Understanding Depth of Field in Photography
Some study of the exposure triad would help you evaluate which cameas can easily produce that kind of DOF, so I recommend you check out all the tutorials on that web site: Digital Photography Tutorials

The size of the image sensor in the camera has a bearing on how easy it is to produce a shallow DOF. Digital Camera Sensor Sizes: How it Influences Your Photography

The Sony DSC- HX100V does not allow for changing lenses like a Sony a390 would - Sony A390 Digital SLR Camera (Black)

I think it would be easier to answer your ? if you gave us a little more info... What will your subject matter be? People? Landscapes? Animals? Who do you want to see your pictures? How high of quality to you want your pictures to be? Would you like to be able to have nice 8x10 prints or more like 16x20? What is your budget?
