And it also sounds really good to say "yea my work is diplayed all around blah blah blah hospital"
A lot of companies, magazines, websites etc... are using this these days to get amateurs to submit free photos just for the "honour" of being published. The result (along with micro stock sites) has driven down the market for the working professional photographer considerably.
I'm not saying that in every single case you must demand payment - just that one needs to keep in mind that many companies will try for a freebee and if they get it they win on all grounds.
I see no good reason why you wouldn't want to do it.
I never said don't do it; I was simply offering options to help ensure that the photographer was going to get his own compensation for the work that goes into the photos that will decorate the hospital walls. They pay for mortar, brick and paint so why not the photos as well

Of course the OP can make them a donation to the hospital if they so choose - its totally in their hands. All we can do is provide our reasoning and viewpoints to alternative ideas and approaches.
