What's new

Hospital displaying my work.

And it also sounds really good to say "yea my work is diplayed all around blah blah blah hospital"

A lot of companies, magazines, websites etc... are using this these days to get amateurs to submit free photos just for the "honour" of being published. The result (along with micro stock sites) has driven down the market for the working professional photographer considerably.
I'm not saying that in every single case you must demand payment - just that one needs to keep in mind that many companies will try for a freebee and if they get it they win on all grounds.

I see no good reason why you wouldn't want to do it.

I never said don't do it; I was simply offering options to help ensure that the photographer was going to get his own compensation for the work that goes into the photos that will decorate the hospital walls. They pay for mortar, brick and paint so why not the photos as well ;)

Of course the OP can make them a donation to the hospital if they so choose - its totally in their hands. All we can do is provide our reasoning and viewpoints to alternative ideas and approaches.

Oh free installation is easy - its getting the windows and tyres in the first place that is the tricky part

Don't be ridiculous. This is free advertising, you'd be retarded to refuse.
Agreed. I dont even know why your asking if you should do it lol.

What a dick response. Even if you leave the whole 'free advertising/ getting your name out there' argument out of the equation, it's still a great opportunity to see something you created, printed large and framed, looking awesome, and having others look at it and admire it. Why does everything have to be about money? The satisfaction of having your work displayed and appreciated by others, and in the name of charity for a children's hospital, should be enough of a reward in it's own right. There are enough people in the world already with this moneygrubbing mentality, I don't think we need to try and sway anyone else that way.

"Why does everything have to be about money?"

Because the OP will be paying a rather large amount for "a great opportunity to see something you created, printed large and framed, looking awesome, and having others look at it and admire it."

created + Printed + framed = money. So I guess in spite of the "dick response" claim it is in fact about money.

I have an idea why don't fokker;2134888 finance the OP's opportunity after all fokker;2134888 does not have the " moneygrubbing mentality" so I'm sure it will be a great plan.

WAIT SCRAP THAT PLAN! Here is a real plan "having your work displayed and appreciated by others, and in the name of charity for a children's hospital,"

Forget the vanity display. Donate the money to that charity Children s Hospital instead. They can cure the 8 year old kid from the leukemia that is killing the child. I'm sure the kid would rather live than look at someones donated vanity photo display.

Yes, they are paying for printing and everything.

I am going to ask that my name be included.

Sobolik, did you actually read the thread, or just start posting your opinion? If you DID read the entire thread you would see it is not about money, because the hospital is paying for printing, mounting, framing, etc....

To the OP, I'd say go for it as long as you can add your name and/or contact info.

my honest opinion ( although it may not be worth much lol) I would do it. AS long as they paid the expenses, allowed me to advertise my name . Ive seen some places where they put like the business name/artist/photog and contact info for picture sales on a displayed pic.I dont know about that though being a hospital, but why not. I would do it simply for the *pay it forward* out of the kindness of your heart. After all it is a *Childrens* hospital. Not a prison. But, you'd have to suck up your " losses" i guess, huh? To me it'd be worth it.

What a piece of work...

Sometimes you have to lose some --to gain some.

Apparently you did not read the thread LIKE HE VERY FIRST POST that started this thread

'Hospital displaying my work.
So I just got an email from the hospital my mom currently works at and where I used to work. They are looking for some nature shots to be hung in the clinic exam rooms to "calm" the patients. It's in a children's hospital.

There is no pay,

it would just be a donation.

There is no budget for it,

but they said they would try to "get my work acknowledged." Whatever that means...:sexywink:"

The hospital is paying all expenses!!!

Printing, mounting, framing, hanging, the screw that goes into the wall, the workman that screws the screw in, the cleaning crew that dusts the picture, EVERYTHING!

I've made my mind up and I'm going to do it. I've got nothing to lose, the only thing that can come out of it is good...

I did read the entire thread, even post #4 (which I quoted) that you must of missed... again.

Are you drunk? Obviously you didn't. He has quoted the original poster who stated the hospital was paying for everything. What about that did you miss?

I'm glad you're doing it. It's for such a wonderful cause, and even if no sales come out of it, you're helping a great place.
