I took advantage of a beautiful sunset at my cottage while I was on vacation :) I know that they are centered in the first one (boo) but I really like the colors! I wish the shadows weren't so harsh in the second. I would have taken A LOT more pictures but the batteries in my flash were only 59 cents so the recycle time was about a minute, the tide came in fast and the sun went down quick. Hopefully I will be able to get out to shoot again before the summer is over.
C&C Please :)

You're right, beautiful sky and colors (and sister) ... but if you slide your flash a little closer to you and higher, you would have cut down on the shadow on his face (like in the second picture)

What was the aperture and shutter speed?

I love the light in #2 except that shadow on the guy's face. Hot couple.

I like the 2nd one, except that the light was too low and/or the positioning wasn't right for that light position. The shadow of her head falls right across his face, and if you had just had him come around her a bit more, you could have avoided that and got a great shot.
You probably saw that but it's hard when your batteries are dieing.

Also, notice how the the flash produces a much more blue/white tone, compared to the light from the setting sun. It can work this way, but an alternative would be to color the flash to more closely match the color of the sunlight. To color a flash, you would use 'gels' (colored cellophane)

Thanks for the tips! I will be picking up some gels to experiment :)

I would move the light to your right and shoot it that way to prevent the shadow, someone mentioned raising it already. You can lift it but believe you will still get the shadow in that pose. If you have some kind of diffuser try using it if you get a chance. Do the test shots as much as you can and then take them back out there when you have it. Just in case you forgot your diffuser or do not have one you can make one.

Have fun with it and shoot well, Joe

Miss, with that setting, of course your flash was working so hard. Raise the ISO next time. Higher ISO and larger aperture are the only 2 that can help your flash.

Wouldn't that make the sunset less intense though?

Here is another one, not a fan of her pose here and I think it might be a little too warm.

You can make the ISO one stop higher and shutter one stop faster and you will have exacty the same mood but the flash wont work as hard. But it looks like you are close to your sync speed already. Unless of course you use trigger that can do FP/HSS. I just meant your flash probably fire at full power.

When you say "Hot sister" do you mean YOUR sister.. or HIS sister?
