How was this picture taken??

Ok, here is my first attempt.. We were in the garage, so don't pay attention to the background...I'm just practicing. How do I get both my daughter and the ball in focus? I want to take the picture in her uniform at a softball field. Thank you.

I know I'm way off here, so please help me out!!

I used 18mm lens, f/13, ISO 200, 1/30s.

You should have called her to bend her arm slightly.

Stay a little bit more distant from the ball, and try to focus at different points from shoulder up to the hand, then choose the best.

What you're looking for to pull this off is called Hyperfocal Distance. You can find out how to do it here: Hyperfocal Distance

+1 It looks like you are just a little too close to the ball to get it into focus. Actually, in the original picture, the ball is just a little OOF also.
