- to get a good shot of a Bluejay & have ended up trashing them. This evening was the best yet & I did not trash it but came close. Damn birds will not cooperate with me.

Soo pretty! Tried taking photos of dogs today who wouldn't hold still and they don't move anywhere close to a bird...nice capture!

Crumble a little valium in the bird-feeder!

LOL! I have some etomidate if you'd like...it's a great sedative; works best when given IV, but for a small bird, I think a couple drops in the feeder would do the trick. But then again, Valium is easier to get from the doc...hehe

Do you like your lens? I love the Capture!!

Peanut butter and suet.

Thank guys but I am trying to catch wildlife in the natural environment. I have done the feeder shots with some birds but I find the greater challenge is to get them elsewhere.

Awesome capture, nothing more to say. I like everything about it.

Good shot, especially for a $50 lens! How many lenses do you actually have Ron?

Closer and better than most of my small bird shots!
You might want to slip in and just add a little selective brightness around the eye, the bird has a natural darkpatch of feathers just in the corner of its eye and its shadowed a little so appearing extra dark.

but yeah you might try peanut butter on the back of a few branches; I've also read of a lot of photographers who put nuts and other food sources into little gaps to create a temporary lure to draw small, elusive birds a little closer to the camera. Not essential, but might make life a little easier and its only a temp. food source not anything as long lasting as the bird feeders (so there is certainly more than an element of luck and skill in still getting the birds closer - since you are well out in their environment).

If all else fails, go down to the Skydome Stadium. There is always a lot of blue Jays in their natural environment ;-)

Like this shot !

Twenty-eight I think now. I picked up a nice clean Canon FD 50/1.8 @ a pawn shop last week for $15 taxes in. Got home & discovered the diaphragm is stuck wide open; wish I knew how to free it.

I have to admit that's a nice shot.... I was trying to take a picture of some birds while waiting in the parkinglot and had a tough time over 30 mins of trying... little suckers move fast.

On a side note, I think visiting pawn shops is a great idea... have to find some around my area.
