I followed this DIY with a few of my own additions: Strobist: How To: DIY $10 Macro Photo Studio

It's pretty cool! It's been fun experimenting with different light sources and placements. Here is my current stock of lenses for subjects:

After seeing them on screen I should shoot at a lower F/ so the entire subject is in focus.

I made a few on the cheap just as you did. They do not travel well. I wound up buying a proper one.


I think it's more fun when you group your lenses......

My group would be very small! I can attest to the lack of travel, it barely collapses well - it was cheap and entertaining.
