You think telling someone - anyone, beginner or veteran "hey, use a higher shutter speed" means to select a longer exposure time (?)

Truthfully? That's bizzare. Mathematically, 1/2 second is 0.5 sec. 1/4 sec is 0.25. 1/2 second is 'lower' regardless of it's proximity to 'zero'. If you feel 'Lower means more towards 0' then i'll be happy to straight-swap your $500 for my $250 anytime.
