What's new

If music starts when you enter a website, does that mean the webmaster is an #$%^&*?

Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Thats what I usually think when that happens. Then I have to search frantically for the mute button on your website. Why are you such a dick?

It depends. If it's music you purchased the rights to use on you website, then you're just a bit misguided. If you think that buying a song on iTunes entitles you to put the song on your website then you're a moron. If you don't even bother to buy the song that you are illegally streaming on your site then you've achieved asshole status.

Couldn't agree more. I HATE when music starts playing while I visit another photographers website. I don't want to hear music, I want to see photos.

Putting music in your website is also taking a big risk in regards to customers. Some people won't like your "indie-rock-new-age-crap-garage-band" song that accompanies the photo of a newborn...which totally makes no sense....thus turning the potential "customer" off to your photography before they even get past the first photo.

On the flip side, I have been to sights of concert photographers that are done well, with music FROM the band that they're displaying and it changes with each photo to match the photo...that's a cool idea, but its' also a VERY niche market. So...choose wisely.

I was gonna put i like big butts by sir mix a lot on my website will that boost traffic?!

I dont know, some music is really fricking annoying. But theres a dog tog on here whose Jazz tunes I really liked. First time for everything. Yes muttman I believe I am talkin about you.

there is an advantage in not having your speakers on, unless it is a webinar;)

I generally have no opinion about music on photography websites - it doesn;t really bother me whether they have it or not.

Wow...and all this time I thought I was just hearing that music in my head!!! So, do the websites generate the voices also?

No. asshole is being kind. I would say assclown, or depending on the music maybe even as bad as asshat.

Quite frankly... it works for my clients, and my clients are paying me, so I really don't care whether you think I'm an asshole or not. As one of my mentors once said, 'beauty is in the eye of the check book holder...'

it CAN have its place, but for ME...im not a huge fan.

exactly.

but my opinion is that the site owner is still a huge dick. auto-playing site tunes is bad web etiquette imo.

*ahem* I'm not sure I see what the big deal is...if people want to have music on their sites...why complain about it?...it's THEIR site...not yours...and you have the option of not going there...

The way I see it is if you're complaining that music blares out your speakers...and that's a bad thing...then 1) You shouldn't have had your speakers turned up so loud as to scare yourself when music blares out of it...2) You're probably just pissed cause you are somewhere where you're suppose to be doing something else (like working) but you're really online looking at photos and now everyone knows you're slacking - so that makes YOU the a$$hole...don't be doing something you're not suppose to be doing

Just my two cents...I'm surprised so many people would think it's a-hole-ish...or take it as a judgment on the webmaster...personally I think pages that have multiple pages attached with all the bells and whistles and then some...now that's pompous and a-hole-ish...just sayin':D

Well having music on a site is considered noobish. I just close out any site with music when my speakers are on. It is like flash on sites it is way over used and abused, I close out many flash sites because they are slow as hell.
