What's new

If music starts when you enter a website, does that mean the webmaster is an #$%^&*?

I don't like the sites that play music. Maybe 1 out 25 times I like the song playing. Lately I have been doing my surfing with the volume turned off on my computer. I only turn it up if there is something I want to listen to specifically.

Well having music on a site is considered noobish.

Would you like me to provide you with a list of well known, well experience, well paid photographers who have music on their sites?
Im talking about web pages in general. When sites had music they were and still are considered amateurish by most web developers. Atleast the good old time developers. Most people dont like it because when they are surfing the web they are eithe A) listening to their own music or, B) listening to the TV or watching it so, it is an intrusion.

I immediately close any site that plays unsolicited music. I refuse to use the services of someone who employs such bad manners.

When I visit a site with music in the background all I get is a simple message - you are not wanted here. And then I leave. If I want to listen to music, I turn my player on, and when I don't, it means I don't. It reminds me of the 90s, when people put some annoying midis to play on their website just to show everyone they can actually do that. The internet was dominated by gifs and irritating 'music'. We managed to get a rid of animated gifs over the years, it's time to do something about the sounds.

You're clearly just upset because you have music on your site. I don't think that the word "noobish" is the best descriptor for having music on a site, but it definitely detracts from viewing.

I went to your site, I clicked on the flash site with the intent to look at your portfolio (the first image that came up was nice). However, I found that there isn't a fast enough way to mute the music, as the nav bar at the top takes a while to load.

So I closed your site, because the music was jarring.

Well, there it is. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

ETA the problem with music on the sites is that whatever you choose, and I mean WHATEVER you choose is only going to appeal to a very select croud, and alienate the rest.

If your goal is to weed out paying customers and only cater to the ones who not only don't mind being subjected to unsolicited music on the intrawebs, but also who like your selection....... the have at it. That there is bad business practice if you're trying to make a buck.

Just sayin'.

I'm not upset at all. As I've said previously, my clients are paying me, and it works for them. I don't design my website because a random person on the internet doesn't like it.

However, if you'd like to book a session, and have a look at my print packages, I'd be happy to alter that for you.

I wasn't concerned with whether you would be upset or not. You're right, you didn't design your website because some random person on the internet doesn't like it. You designed your website with the intention to put abrasive music on it that detracts from viewing, and you did a good job at it.

Well.... what can I say. You've figure out my secret plan to bankrupt myself. Good going inspector gadget.

When I created my site it was created in a way that I liked and my clients like. The opinion of another photographer looking at my images does not matter, you are not my client.
My site loads fast enough and from all the feedback I get is just fine the way it is.
