What's new

If music starts when you enter a website, does that mean the webmaster is an #$%^&*?

I have music on my site, it is not jarring.

To you.

However, the link in your sig to your site leads to some bull**** facebook app. No I don't want to allow this site access to my facebook, are you kidding? That's enough to turn me off.

I'm not upset at all. As I've said previously, my clients are paying me, and it works for them. I don't design my website because a random person on the internet doesn't like it. .

You're missing the point, and probably don't want to hear it anyways. So this will be my last post in his thread. You're right. Your paying customers like it. The reason your NON-PAYING customers haven't said anything is that they immediately shut the browser containing your web page, and never gave it a second thought. They won't complain to you, because seconds later they found someone who offered the same services you do, that didn't have music on their site........ and hired them.

If you can afford to lose out on paying customers due to your website design, well then good for you. Most people I know, however, would prefer the paycheck over the opportunity to make people listen to mediocre jazz.

Ymmv.

Your site is not good enough or even complete to be talking crap about our sites that are up and making money.

Yeah I guess I do talk a lot of ****. But my site isn't going to have music on it, OR be a flash site... Soooooooooooooo what's your point? Websites don't pop out of a womb overnight, and I'm working with my girlfriend who's a student, intern, and holding a job. Criticize my site all you want.

there is nothing wrong with a flash site, whats your point? you can have all the excuse you want.

Just for the record and (Im sorry to jump in the middle of the dick measuring contest) I can not stand it when music starts playing as soon as you log onto a site. It is a good way to guarantee I never come back to your site.

I'm not trying to impress anyone, Franco. You approached me with a similar attitude, though (albeit with worse grammar, and lack of capitalization). So I guess that begs the question: Who are you trying to impress? Did you code your website in a 6 days, and on the 7th day you rest? I guess I don't have as much time as Canadians to devote to coding a site. Woe is me.

The hilarity of this is that the use of music, or flash for that matter, on a site is indicative of NOTHING. What any photographer (who is serious about making photography his/her living) needs to do is develop a site that is going to work as intended. If you wish to cater to other photographers and/or photographer wanna-bes by creating a site that they think is "worthy," then you are not focusing on the development of your craft and brand. Truthfully, what other photogs think of your site and work will have no bearing on what your potential clients think of it! What is important is that you take the time to discover exactly what will work to draw customers ... if you find that using flash and/or music works to develop a growing client-base, then that is exactly what you should use. If you find that music and/or flash is acting as a deterrent, then get rid of it. Try multiple combinations and find out for yourself. I have personally had MANY suggestions from clients to have music on my site. It's important to keep in mind, if you're in fact out to market yourself as a photographer, that you have a specific market and demographic you're catering to. The area of the world you live in also is a very important factor ... globally, we as people don't have the same expectations and ideals, and so our approach has to cater to the exact people you're trying to reach. In this case, opinion matters not ... what matters is what WILL WORK to keep the interest of the person you've already worked so hard to get to your site in the first place. Keep in mind, if you're gaining a steady stream of visits to your site daily, you will have already ascertained whether these people are being deterred or not. Again, if you're out to impress other photographers (the ones who aren't going to pay you for your service), then don't add music and don't use flash on your site. It's client feedback and marketing results that will make this decision for you :)

OK...that's enough of this topic for now.

If I had more time, I'd hand out warning for all the swearing going on here....so just watch it!
