Hey all:

I enjoy photography, newbie - mostly playing with editing tools on the internet - not too much time to do all I want but look forward to reading this board.

I wanted to ask if you folks had any advice as to where I should order a 24 x 36 canvas print from if I wanted to do so. I have a photo from my wedding (high quality though I have to go look at exact details) that would be horizontal and I want to get this printed as a gift for my wife.

I've never ordered a canvas so I want to get the best quality at the best price - and all of these websites seem good (canvas world, easy canvas, canvas on demand, gc pro)

Thanks and I appreciate the help! Happy new year!

Welcome to the site.

Welcome to the site. Do you have the print release from the photographer that took the picture? If so, then you can look at some please like Mpix.com.

Print release as in authority to use? Yes indeed.
I appreciate any insight. all these websites say their canvases are high quality etc - but prices range from $50-$200 and I imagine I do not want either of those

I would agree with that statement. I have used mpix for prints but I have not yet gotten a canvas. I am actually wanting to order a wrap of a couple of photos but I am holding out.

How do you plan to have the canvas mounted? Gallery wrap?

At Mpix as a gallery wrap, 1.5 inches from each edge of the photo will be wrapped over the stretcher bars.
So you have to account for 3 inches being wrapped from both the width and the height of the image.
One way people avoid having to lose part of the image because of the wrap is to mirror copy 1.5 inches from each edge of the photo to make the photo 27x39.

Also note that 24x36 is a 2:3 aspect ratio, so make sure the photo you want printed on canvas also has a 2:3 aspect ratio. (8x10 is 4:5 aspect ratio, and 5x7 is 5:7 aspect ratio)

I've contacted the photographer to get the ratio aspect numbers
are you saying that I can only get a 24 x 36 photo canvas printed if there is a certain ratio?
I want this to be high quality and need it to be that big - big area to fill

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I am hearing East Canvas Prints and CanvasOnDemand

Thoughts anyone on these 2? I appreciate it and sorry for the bother

24 x 36 is a 2:3 aspect ratio.

Whichever place you choose, be sure they are actually printing on canvas, and not plastic textured to look like canvas.
Like photograph print paper, there are different types of canvas too.
So, if an outlet doesn't say anything about what type of grade of canvas they are printing on, keep shopping.

For high quality I recommend using a professional print lab like Millers, WHCC, H&H Color Lab, Black River Imaging, Bay Photo, Nations Photo Lab, etc.

The website for easy canvas says it is a cotton based canvas
do I need more info? thanks Keith and everyone
