Photos NOT OK to edit
Hi all... I'm sure this has been hashed to death but I'm gonna ask :) I'm looking at the D700 vs D3 and am wondering if the difference in price is really worth it to go to the D3? I currently am using the D80 and love it. I work at a photo studio and am looking to branch out on my own. I understand basic/intermediate concepts on the construction and capabilities. I've looked at the specs side by side at the nikon website but am not 100% clear as to the big differences. I greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Meg

The main differences are: The D3 has a secondary rear LCD, additional controls meaning that you don't have to access menus to change settings, voice-recording capability (You can append voice notes to images), improved construction and weather-sealing, and a bigger, longer-lasting battery, oh, and of course a $2000 higher price-tag.

Personally, I opted for a D700 & grip.

I got a free grip with my D700 which didn't make the D3 worth the purchase.

If you can get a D3 for the same price as the D700 plus grip get the D3!

The D3 is rated to 300,000 shutters and the D700 is rated to 150,000. Its just simply economics...

For studiowork. go for the D700.
You doesn't needs the third display, voice memo, etc in studio. Neither the extra speed that the D3 gives you.

D700+PDK-1 is awesome to work with and the image quality is WAY better then the D80 so i guess you'll be happy with it ;)

You don't really need the PDK-1 if your in the studio the adapter and stuff is just so over-priced. Just buy yourself a Mb-D10 for the vertical shutter release and a standard D700 battery
