Thanks Big Mike for the input on the 50mm lens. I have to say, the quality on my 85mm is in a whole different league than any of the zooms that I have, so I do understand what you mean about the pictures being completely different on the primes versus the zooms. I suppose it may be different if you get into high dollar zooms, which I am so not there yet.

First and foremost, it's the quality of the lighting and the skills of the photographer that make for great shots. So don't fall into the trap of thinking that great gear is what makes for great shots. But that being said, a smart photographer knows that using the right tools will help you get the best results.

So if this is something you're going to pursue...start saving your pennies and budget for some expensive lenses. Consider that many pro photographers will buy a top quality lens, and use it for years or decades. But they may upgrade their camera(s) every couple years.

Ahh too many distracting patterns and colors. Not my kind of taste but to each their own. Its a fine balance between post processing and still making the pics look natural.
