Just messing around (NSFW!)

that may be harsh, but thats how i see it. this is a critique thread, not a "lets see how nice we can be thread"

i think annie L once said somthing like leave your friendship at the door when it comes to critiques

just because we are honest here doesn't mean you can leave your tact at the door.

I just think its rude to say his girl looks like a drug addict.

We all know I'm no stranger to honest and harsh criticism, but I have to agree that saying she looks like a drug addict is rather mean. It's obvious that she wasn't caught in the best of lighting or poses. But a comment on the girl herself is totally uncalled for. This is why I very rarely comment on photos that people take of their kids, because an ugly kid can ruin a photo faster than an Holga, and there's not a whole lot that can be said. Even if she looks off in this shot, 1) There are a lot of other reasons that it turned out poorly. And 2) You'd still hit it.

Mike, I might also add that if the drug addicts where you're from look like that, then the sober ladies must be rather extraordinary.

hahaha, alright, i apologize (really, not just saying that) but what i meant, is the moment you took this picture her eyes look off. she really looks stoned to me. I've taken plenty of photos when i've cought people in that look, so sorry if i came off as saying you look like your with a drug addict!!

its just not the right expression for this photo in my opinion

Wow I really didn't expect this thread to be so popular. But that being said I appreciate all the comments about this picture. Although they may not be things that I like to hear, I really appreciate it anyways.

My goal in posting here is to better myself as a photographer. And, if I tried something and screwed it up I don't mind you guys telling me about it or, better yet, ways to fix it. Even if that includes, "Don't ever take a picture like that again, idiot!" lol.

P.S. - I didn't get a chance to re-shoot this with finals and everything else I have going on. But maybe some other time in the future, with a better location, and less of a porn look, and I might try and get her to not smoke so much before hand too (kidding ). But if and when I do, I'll make sure I let you guys know about it. :D

Someone owes me a new monitor I just spit out my drink. !! Thanks alot -- funny people on this thread.

From a modeling standpoint, she needs to learn her angles better. She's NOT posed in a way that's flattering to her--her stomach looks bigger than I'm sure it is, she's lost her neck, she's got a 'double chin', her chest looks flat and her body looks ill-proportioned overall. It also bothers me that her hair's not totally wet--get ALL into it if you're getting naked and showering for someone!! GAH!! Plus, the pose (hands over boobs) is overrated and overdone, and the mass amounts of wet hair in her face make the viewer lose the impact of the expression (which also isn't that great).

Additionally, it's a very "GWC"-esque photo (GWC = Guy With Camera = not a good thing in modeling terms). Porny is right, IMO, and not in an elegant, sensual way. It also bothers me that the showerhead's not in there, that there's that odd shadow on the R (created by the door or curtian I guess?), and that dark washclothe or towel is there--it's ugly and distracting. Give the model a pouf or natural sea sponge, lots of lather, have her get under the spray completely (wet body, face and hair ALL THE WAY!) and make it more sensual/artistic and less... pointless.

If I were you, I'd find a different model to shoot with and work on the aesthetics of the background. If I were her, I'd practice posing and expressions in front of a mirror more. LOTS more. If she asks, I model, and it helps HUGELY. If you want, I can send you a link to my port. PM me.

Well done on that laundry list, Rachel.

Here are a couple proper suggestions for your lady friend to keep in mind. I'm going to attempt a modeling limerick.

No parallel shoulders or hips
No upper arm unless it is ripped
Extend the neck, for greatest effect
And please, take your hands off your...

And for WDodd:

Light from the side to improve
The shadows surrounding the boobs
And with no exception
Please bring contraception
The next time you photograph a nude

 That needs to be words to live by.

LOL @ Max hehehe

to be honest, apart from rachel, there is too much critics without constructive criticism.

when a photographer asks for help, he means with his photography.... not slag his girlfriend off!!

what we are dealing with here are two things...

1.. a photographer who wants help, and is asking for some

2.. a girlfriend, who for a bit of fun offered to help him... and possibly is a little shy, maybe even had a couple of drinks to help.... resulting in the stoned/drugged look.

my pesonal view to Wdodd and misses is...

More light... soft if possible (removing shadows)

model under water more running both hands through hair, and take the shot showing more bum...at an angle that hides the nipples... if you know what i mean.
think of the shampoo ads on TV

if need be, crop off to the top of her bum after... see how it looks.

get her to move around and take a few shots, then pick the photos out together..
