Latest photo shoot of my new car. I wish I could've gotten rid of my shadow but the sun was behind me. I should've use my extended cable release. But oh well.

Awesome!! Was that photoshop?

thats a cool location for a car shoot

Sure, it was just a crude way of showing you how it would more or less look if you opened up your aperture a bit more.

The best way to learn is to try it out yourself.

Ahhhh, okay. Thanks for the tip, I'll try it out next time. Wouldn't that ruin my DoF though?

That's what will give you a shallow DoF, which is typically good for car shoots. Also, consider going back here for sunrise/set. That car would pop against a nice mix of blues and purples if you could capture it.

I think the last 2 are your best. Some things to look out for; grass and objects between the lens and the car, and try to keep your shadow out of the shot or edit it out in post.

Lastly, when you take profile/side shots, always turn the wheel to flex toward the camera. It's better to show more of the wheel than the tire. As in #4, but not the first 3.

Nice S2k, I love driving those cars and have bounced the idea around of getting one. It always comes down to them being a tad to small for my liking though. My next coupe will probably be a 370 touring.

I'd like the last two better if the car was on the road.

Thanks for the tips. let me give what I was going for and maybe you can have some more insight/suggestions. For this particular shoot was wanted a long DoF since it was a car shoot but also a landscape shoot, I was shooting at f/13 but maybe that was too much?

I didn't want my shadow in it but like I said, I should've used my extended cable release (I will do that next time) to at least only have the tripod shadow in it. I don't have the capability to post edit the photo out as I'm just using the ViewNX2 software that came with my Nikon. I was thinking of getting Lightroom for more options and watermark. I could remove the shadow in Photoshop but I dot think getting that expensive of a software is really warranted for my hobby.

that tip about the rim and tire is awesome and thanks and I will definitely remember that for next time. I'm still working on thinking about the shot while taking the shot :D

last but not least, these are awesome cars!! I'm about 5'10" and have to push the seat up a bit but they are small but it's a sports car and not a sedan, lol. I don't know anything about the 370's but if you like taking corners and doing foothill runs, I'd definitely consider the s2k as it was engineered for that exact reason.

It's tough to find a balance with this for car shoots. The way I see it is this; if the landscape/background compliments the car, keep it in focus. If not, blur it as much as possible and get all of the attention on the car.

Your car is hot, really hot. And it stands out like crazy on the dry grass background. I think for the shots with the plains in the background you're fine, but I would get that tree way out of your focus range for next time. I also believe your car would really benefit from a city shoot with some lights in the background.

I thought the same about the software but I recently decided to pull the trigger and subscribe to Adobe CC for Lightroom and Photoshop. Best move I've made for $9.99/mo and I haven't regretted it one bit.

Sure thing with the wheel tip. There are a lot of angles to consider with cars. You also want to try to get the light to showcase the bodywork, use the viewfinder and move around while watching the light as it plays across the curves and lines of the car. You might find some really neat angles that way. Also, don't be afraid to get up close!!

Here's my flickr album for car stuff, not much in there but it might give you a better idea of what I'm talking about... https://www.flickr.com/photos/118489034@N05/sets/72157642232217274/

My issue was with fitting, I'm 6'2" and I have a problem with S2k's and Miatas where my eyes align nearly perfectly with the top of the windshield lol. Makes it rather uncomfortable when the top is down, and when it's up I have to hunch down to see. They are undoubtedly fantastic cars though and for this reason I curse my height limitations!!
