Looking for advice on an entry level SLR $300-500

I was looking for a dslr in the same price range as well. I went to B&H and ended up spending $50 extra and walked away with a nikon d3100 18-55 vr kit for $550 and Im so happy i went with it over the bottom budget cannon.
