Looking for tips and advice to improve

These two photos are two of my favorite shots I've taken. I know the portrait photos is soft, I took these in my film photography class and I purposely printed it a little soft to add to the effect of her innocent youth. All of these are shot in natural lighting. I'm starting to go digital, but if there is any advice or tips about the shots I'd still appreciate it to help improve my digital photos I'll be shooting soon.

What you are calling soft here doesn't work. It just looks blurry. The contrast is good, the focus in the second is quite nice however it would be far more interesting if it included the full length of the subject as you did in the first. Also your film needs to be more tidy. Though good luck with that if you are sharing a photo lab.
