Looking to get better. Critques would be great.

These are a range of the images I have taken. I have been taking photos for a little over a year and love it. Recently I was asked to do a shoot for someone and I am nervous. This will be my first time shooting someone out of my family. Any advice and crtiques of my work is greattl appreciated. You only get better my learning. I am here to learn everything I can. The images was edited with Photoshop and Lightroom. Sorry so many images just wanted to show as much as I could and a different range. Thanks so much. I am using a Nikon d3100 and 50mm/1.8 lens on most all of my images.

As noted, too many images for individual critique. Overall, they're not bad. I see some white balance issues in different images, and images such as the first two have some exposure issues and would have benefitted from fill/additional light.

For the first one, I find it a bit overexposed for my taste, especially that background. It doesn't have enough contrast for my liking and the framing leaves too much room that does nothing for the photo, around the little girl. I would have cropped it tighter, found a dimmer background OR exposed for the background and lit her with a reflector or artificial light to separate her and add dimension.

2. I don't have any real comments here. Exposure looks good cropping works and perspective is good.

3. Not a fan. Lighting is harsh with undesirable shadows and kind of selective color-ish.

4. I like it. Leading lines, good exposure, good crop.

5. Feels kinda washed to me. I know there is a style similar to this around, but I prefer it with the sun flaring through the photo. This feels like an attempt at a correction.

6. Feels like a good natural light shot a mother would be happy with.

7. I dig it.

8. Out of focus, not a fan of the angle, the expression is kind of off as well.

9. Nice filler shot for a baby album.

10. Dont care for the sepia treatment.

#4 needs to be in portrait format and you've cropped her hair. Nice model, nice pose, good overall, just learn to recognize when some shots need to be in portrait format.

#5 is much better, but it looks as if the girl's eyes are not directed toward the camera.

Fewer shots for critique please.

Skip the props, imo. (though actually I think the hat/feet one may be one of the better shots)

Babies with ties on, though? Ugh. My personal opinion is that this isn't "cute". It's actually kinda tacky and a little weird to boot. This is very much a personal opinion, though... the whole Anne Geddes thing to me has become way over the top cliché... and this variation you've come up with doesn't work at all, IMO.

In general, good idea to post one image for critique as you'll get more out of us on a per image basis.

Oh, great? You say you want to make GREAT images? That's admirable, for sure, and definitely something most of us strive for.

The closest one you have to being great in this group is #6, but you have a blank-out corner of the blanket, and the baby's face is too much in shadow. Fix those, and you're on your way!
