ok opening up a can of worms here.

i personally cannot for the life of me see what all the fuss is about.

i have not/willnot read the books but the films are sooooooooooo boring.

who agrees or disagrees.

I too just can't get into the whole LOTR's thing. Much rather watch a good thinking mystery with lots of small hidden clues that leave you guessing until the end.

You really can't get the full 'value' of the movies without a real love of the books.

I've read the books many times, I think they are great...and I loved the movies when I first saw them. After having watched them many times, I do find them a little boring now though.

i remember thinking the hobbit was a great little adventure, but i got about 100 pages into the first lotr book, put it down one day and never picked it up again. that was approximately 6 years ago...

and the movies put me to sleep.

I loved the books the movies were good for a once through but not a re watch. (I can't even get through the extended editions the first time through)

I've heard many people say that...

LOTR was written in a time before video games & computers...and before people watched 10 hours of TV a day. A time when the average attention span was longer than a sneeze.

I love the books and love the movies. However i can understand those that dont enjoy the movies, as you really need to read the books to appriciate them ;)

was that an insult?

I like the books very much. I've read LotR and the Hobbit them several times in Spanish and now I'm reading LotR in English. I tried to read The Hobbit in German but failed miserably.

The movies I like in some regards... despise in others. I like it's visual aspect, I hate the changes in the story and characters.

Quite simply could NOT agree more

i thought this was porn related, but that might be just my mind (lord of the ring) :D

loved the movies - have the the extended versions in my dvd collection :)

hadn't read the books, i have a copy of the first book, but never got into into it. personally, i don't get what all the fuss is about when a movie comes out that is adapted from a book, the fans of the book go all out to bash the movie as if it was a crime to humanity - really go over the top, after all it's only a movie - you can't everything from the book in there or we'd have to sit in the damn cinema for like 12hours.
