Close, it is a freshwater pearl necklace. Those big round shiny things are 3mm gold beads.

I don't have a macro lens myself, I just have an old set of extension tubes that I can use with my old Mamiya/Sekor. I am trying to get that thing fixed so I can take some more close ups. Damn things take a helluva lotta light tho...

If you can compensate for the light, extension tubes are a cheap way of doing close up work that yield very good results.
