Hi,

Request some advise...
Is it worth installing Magic Lantern on Canon 6D?
Will all default features will work normally?
If not satisfied how to uninstall?

Thanks,

Ketan

Magic Lantern is a kind of pseudo firmware. It isn't actually installed in place of the Canon factory firmware.

The way it works is that you format a memory card as a "bootable" card and the Magic Lantern firmware is actually on the card... it doesn't replace the in-camera firmware.

Second... the Magic Lantern firmware isn't actually complete. What it really does is to call the Canon firmware to perform much of it's functionality. So basically you can think of it as "supplementing" the existing firmware. BTW, in order for Magic Lantern to correctly invoke the Canon firmware, it must know EXACTLY which version you are using. The Magic Lantern code will jump to specific memory addresses of in-camera firmware to perform functionality. If the Canon firmware version is different than what is expected, then that function will not exist at the specific memory address that Magic Lantern is planning to use - and bad things will happen. (Magic Lantern warns that if the camera ever locks up while using it, you should remove the camera battery and re-insert it (this force-resets the camera). The power switch is not enough because the power switch is actually just a software-switch... it doesn't actually kill the power. If your camera is locked-up then it won't actually respond to the power switch.

The current version of Magic Lantern for the 6D requires that your 6D is running Canon's firmware version 1.1.6. You absolutely must not run version 1.1.5, and if Canon were to release a version 1.1.7 tomorrow, you must not install it until Magic Lantern is updated to support that specific firmware version. In other words, it's very fussy about the firmware versions being the precise version -- there's no wiggle room here.

If this were a Monte Python skit, we'd say "Thou shalt run Canon firmware version 1.1.6; no more; no less. And 1.1.6 shall the number of thy firmware. Thou shalt NOT run firmware version 1.1.5, neither shalt thou run firmware version 1.1.4. Version 1.1.7 is right out!"

To "uninstall" Magic Lantern is as simple as removing the memory card (and inserting a memory card that doesn't have it). Or you can delete the Magic Lantern firmware file from the bootable memory card.

sure, it's "worth it" because it's free, if you don't like it simply erase the program from the SD memory card. With or without ML the regular Canon software will still operate normally
