I was mostly aiming for an improvement in focus. Did I get that?

I love walking around here anyway. Weather permitting I might come back this weekend.

The composition is worse than your focus. Your entire right corner is a boring bush.

try bringing the horizon down a little bit (sky=1/3 frame) and work on the view, less bush, more coast

I see. When I edit I spend a majority of my time looking at my crop choices. Sometimes I nail it in camera but sometimes I don't. Sometimes I toss frames in the bin because what I saw in my mind's eye didn't manifest itself on the sensor. This image lacks compositionally but it's a nice coastline and worth keeping at it. It's always nice to have a spot you like to return to. As for improving your focus, KmH mentioned it's hard to get the near foreground and distant background in focus by using f/8. Why not try using f/16 next time?

I like the trail, but yeah the bush not so much (at least until it flowers). Maybe try to compose so that the trail is more of the foreground interest? It might also help give you a more even exposure throughout the frame, depending on the cloud cover.

Just a couple thoughts, I'm no expert. Keep at it!

Thanks for the advice.

I get that the foreground wasn't so attractive, but it was all I could find to show the slope of the hill down to the ocean. I'll try to make it back soon.
