This is my first ever urban shot. So what do you think and how do you like it.

I think it's pretty urban, like Keith Urban.

My question is, what is "urban" about this? I've seen palettes stacked up out back in small towns in the middle of nowhere, in the 'burbs and in the city. See what I'm saying?

k well lets just c&c the pic then since I don't have the grasp of what urban photography is

I think he just did. The question is what do YOU like about it? What makes it Urban? What would you have done different?

The subject matter as a whole is lacking for me, and I find that the vertical line down the center bisects the image in a not-so-pleasing way.

I thought urban photography meant things you see in the city. This was in an alley. There is not much I can do with my city its so plain.

Research grande prairie alberta. The most city like thing here is the garbage. The tallest building is 100 feet high.its an oil field and farming city so nothing really racy and gritty to shoot.

If you have farms and oil fields around you, you have a lot of photographic opportunities. It won't be urban, but there's a lot of subject matter there.

oh yeah i know the canola fields are beautiful when they turn gold. but im trying to get some urban shots because the fields are so damp and soaked its all mud right now. Ive also never done urban shots and would like to try it out for a change.

I am no professional photographer, and I shoot people (mainly newborns/babies/kids), but I kinda like it.

But I agree with SrBiscuit, I'm not fond of the vertical line going down the center of the picture. Its distracting.

Perhaps shooting the same place, but shooting next to the pallets and down the alley instead of straight on? IDK what that would do except make that vertical line not too distracting... Did you take pictures of the same scene at other angles or at different heights?

No because the alley wasnt that long. it was a big bay door just out of the shot to the left. There was a big dumpster to the right of the picture so it would have been even more distracting.
