Need Advice - half-professional camera with good auto mode

I find it interesting that a person so interested in the science/art of teaching has no interest in learning.

Is "reading books on child psychology and pedagogics" not learning from your point of view? There are so many interesting and vital thing to learn that I have to priorotize. Learning "how any technical device works" is the last in the queue.

I'm an artist, and art is tough to master. I'm in a competitive field. I spend a lot of times doing artworks. You think drawing and painting are easy. I spend 10 - 20 hours per drawing or painting. I like to take the time to have fun with my DLSR. That is my hobby. Beside, full auto mode sucks! DSLR with full manual, post processing and photo-edit software, you can go wild with your photographs. Spend a little more money on DSLR. It will maximize you enjoyment in a long run....and impresses your friend.

OP also wants a "Half-professional" camera for under $400. what is "half-professional"? They don't HAVE to read the manual but it would help to get the pictures they are wanting. [As for not having time to read, that's crap. Everyone as the time to do what is important to them.]

In the grand scheme of things learning the basic functions of a camera is incredibly easy and extremely worthwhile. Your child will sleep, use your time wisely.
