Was thinking of getting rid of my D3100 and getting something better. Wanted to stay Nikon so i could keep the 2 lenses I have. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

P.S. could someone explain the whole FX and DX lense thing.

FX is Nikon's full size sensor, while the DX is a smaller, cropped sensor.

You have the D3100 now, so what is it you want to do that your current camera cannot? That may help you decide.

thanx i really appreciate it,also does Nikon make a DSLR where the manual focus button is in a convenient spot on the camera?

I believe that the manual focus switch is typically on the lens itself. Some are A/M where you can auto focus or manual either way in that setting.

I only asked cuz on my D3100 theres a little dial thats near the viewfinder for manual focus and its a real in the behind to use. I figured there had to be a model with it in a more convenient spot cuz its aggravating to use cuz of the spot its in. Also i'm guessing that FX sensor is better but are FX cameras compatible with DX lenses? i'm sorry if i am being a pest

The FX bodies can use DX lenses in DX mode. The DX bodies can also use FX lenses, but you have to multiply the focal length by 1.5. Like say, you have a 50mm FX lens on a DX body, it would equate to a 75mm lens.

As far as the D3100 manual focus dial by the view finder, I'm not sure what you're referring to. I am not familiar with that model, sorry.

EDIT: Are you referring to the command dial? To put the camera in manual mode?

nope its right next to the viewfinder, like a little wheel of some sort, i know it has to be for manual focus cuz whenever i put the camera in manual focus mode and i start turning it it messes with the focusing, making it blurry or clearer, its very small,i'm trying to upload a pic to show u what i mean but i am not proficient with posting pics on forums

that sounds like your talking about the focus wheel for the viewfinder, shouldn't have any effect on your photos, its simply to make the viewfinder sharp for your eye. for instance if you wear glasses you can adjust it so you dont have to wear them to put your eye on the vf.

thank u,i really appreciate, also which body is better? the D7000 or the D300s?

i would think 300s but i havent shot with either so it'd be good to ask a nikon person.

Compare the two models on Nikon's website; then go to a store and handle them both. Decide for yourself which one you prefer.

That would depend on what you need the camera to do.

The D7000 can only do 3 AEB while the D300s can do 9 AEB.

The D7000 doesn't have a PC port or a 10-pin connector, but the D300s does.

There are many other significant features, and functional differences between the D7000 and D300s.
