The good AF lenses that don't have a focus motor cost a pretty penny too. Many of the AF lenses don't focus as fast as the equivelent AF-S lens does.i want a new camera is cuz of the lack of autofocus motor in the body, now that i know a little bit more bout cameras i want the autofocus motor built-in. Ive noticed DX lenses with AF-s built-in cost quite a pretty penny.
For example Nikon currently makes 3 - 35 mm lenses:
$200 - AF-S 35 mm f/1.8G
$390 - AF 35 mm f/2D (no focus motor)
$1165 - Nikkor 35 mm f/1.4 (manual focus only)
Note: AF-S lenses don't use the in-the-body AF motor, they use the in-the-lens AF motor.
The cost of a lens has more to do with the maximum aperture of the lens, than if it has a focus motor in it or not.
