Newbie portrait, my lovely girlfriend

my dear, the photo is a little bit over exposed, say half stop....next it is going out of frame.....general portraits are kept in centre to have full attention on the face.....keep up and more to see in different locations.

Thx for the feedback =) I actually framed it offset as centered subjects no matter what just don't look right to me...might be a noob thing. I increased the exposure to smoothen the skin ever so slightly. Black on selective colour was increase slightly to give justice to her hair and eyes giving a dark, rich colour, these of which are certainly not over exposed...are they????? =S

Background does not flatter the subject, it makes it difficult to decern the subjects hair. I personally don't have a problem with the off centre head, except that it allows more of the background through.

The photo itself is blown out. Regardless of what you were trying to do with her skin and what not, the shirt and parts of her face are overexposed. I'd say her eyes are almost over exposed. I can see slight traces of brown in them, but they don't stand out.

Did you use a flash? Seems like that might be some of the problem. If you did, bounching or not having it directly hit her face square on might have helped out a bit.

Disclaimer, I'm a noob too, so take what I have said with a grain of salt.

Did you use a flash? if so use Rear Fill and try again!

Thx everyone ^^ I didn't use a flash actually. She was directly facing a window about 2 meters away from it but it's so exposed down to PS lol... maybe over did it.

It wasn't a planned portrait, she was merely sat on my bed and I was playing with my camera and I said "cheeeeese" and took a pic lol

You are certainly right about the background colliding with her hair :thumbup:

when u went to photoshop, u cud do cloning on the small part of bg and let maroon dominate, with her white skin tone.
her face is clean....i do not understand overexposing for ''more'' smoothening.

anyhow try in next shots.

I don't think it's over exposed to the point it is blown-out. It's merely to complement her smile and to create a happy feel.
