Newbie wanting C&C for pictures of my wife

Guys/Gals,

I am new to the group. I have been taking pictures for about a year and still working on technique. Here are a couple of pictures I took over the summer of my wife while we were out taking pictures. I am trying to work on making better pictures and try to do as much in the camera as possible. So any feedback is good.

Brandon, first of all welcome to the site.

The lighting in the first one looks good to me. The other two need fill light or to have the exposure brought up in them. Honestly, all three could benefit from shooting them portrait instead of landscape.

I will work on taking pictures in portrait mode rather than landscape with people. I am just starting to do post type stuff...so I will play with the exposure in Aperture to see what I can come up with. Great suggestions. Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum and I agree with Ron. Also, before you shoot, look at your subject and think to yourself - "what's distracting here?"
I'm finding the camera strap distracting; either get the camera in the shot or leave it out entirely... and watch out for things growing out of your subject's head, like hinges and trees.

You have a lovely wife, lots of potential as a model to practice on if she's willing and patient.

Thank you. I missed the tree and had been thinking that something just was out of sorts....now I see it..literally .

Composition is all I see here, The first image, the hinge on the door gives a black line out of the head, the 2nd the head is cut off at the top, stopping a fluid framing of the image, and the third there is a tree coming out of her head, keep up the good work, be sure to check out some tips & tricks with composition, rule of thirds and definitely look behind the model before the model themselves!

Most of what I know I learned here. If I could remember it all and actually apply it consistently I'd be the next Ansel Adams.
