It doesn't hurt to learn and try to take better pictures of product, but there is a point of diminishing returns.

Agreed, but he still has a way to go before he has reached that point.

IMO, he has barely begun learning the basics, and he will probably recognize when he has achieved acceptable results.

After all, nobody has suggested that he purchase ProFoto lights and a D750 with a 70-200 lens (yet), although I think I just did.
