I currently have a nikon d5000 along with a kit lens. But i was looking to upgrade. I have money saved up but a problem. I am not sure if i should buy the new nikon d7000 with the lens it comes with or if i should buy the new nikon 24-120 f/4G ED VR lens. I want to have better quality images but i dont know which route to take. If you can give me some answers it would be greatly appriciated. :)

Depent on what your need is, but if your Nikon is only support by the kit lens 18-105?, I would say upgrade on the glass first. The price of the D7000 will come down soon enough. If you already have tons of lens....then it might be a different story.

I would go for glass! If i could trade my 24-70 + equal cash for a new D7000, i would never do it! Glass FTW!

Only exception IMO would be if you absolutely need the better video quality of the D7000. We all know how awesome the video quality is on the D5000/D90 :(

going from your current kit lens 18-55mm VR to the new 24-120 VR isn't much of an upgrade as far as IQ goes. All you will gain is more reach and slightly faster speed. I'd say go with the D7000 plus it's kit lens which is a very good lens BTW. You will gain just about every aspect from the body and still get good reach and wide from the 18-105mm VR kit lens.

Edit: I also forgot the mention. If you get the D7000, your D5000 could be sold for a good amount of money. If you get the 24-120mm, you would still need to keep your 18-55 because it goes wider.

I hear you there. I guess either way he still isn't going to gain better quality images.

He could keep the D5000 and get something like a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 + Nikon 50mm f1.8G for around $900 dollars which would give him much better images.

Just depends what your needs are really.

I have a D5000 & just got a 7000 with 18-105. I'm pretty impressed with the lens and can assure you the 7000 is way more camera. I've been photographing our H S marching band and football team under some pretty poor lighting. The 7000 works much better for this. High ISO performance is quite a bit better. The 18-105 is very sharp and color looks really good for a kit lens, IMO. I'd get the D7000.
BTW, I sold my Canon T2i & lenses to go back to Nikon. The T2i was better than the D5000, IMO.
