Nikon unveils 24.5MP D3x digital SLR

12MP jump to 24MP is about a 30% increase in resolution, which certainly isn't anything to sneeze at, but is it $3000 worth of sneeze?

I'm gonna fall on the side of Thom Hogan and Mr. Rockwell and say that compared to the introduction of the D3 and D300, the D3x existence is; well it's something. Someone will buy this, because well they just HAVE to have the BEST (and will still be producing the same old bird photos) - but really all you really are paying for is an increase in resolution and crop performance. As he says - is that worth 3000 more bucks, especially compared to the 3000 dollar A900?

and given how bad the A900's low-light noise performance is, I'd probably stay away. . .surprised that the D3x didn't come with a sensor cleaner like the D700, I think Nikon lazied out on this one and just updated firmware on the D3's native sensor.

Hopefully this will drive the prices of the D3 and D700 lower though?
