course my thought is to put it out of its misery but wife and kids...............................
wings are fine. one foot extended it moves only a little cant support itself. its still in a box on the car...

I don't even know what it is. But im pretty sure it was a bird. it tried flapping away but not supporting itself on that leg the wings just hit the ground. I should just get the pellet gun and do it a favor but...my wife hit the roof when I mentioned it..

Its a robin and VERY easy to keep in captivity. Get a large cage, a shallow dish of water and any small bugs and earthworms you can find. In fact they love live meal worms which are available at most pet stores.. I raised one from a small fledgling and she lived to be 3 years old. She loved to sit on my shoulder when out of her cage.

hmm. Thanks for the response, as I don't have a clue what to do with it. It seems content in the box with the lid shut. I don't want to spring for a cage. what if I just leave it in the box and run down and buy a container of earthworms. local fish and game store has earth worms. will it be content with that for now? Think this thing is going to live and how old would you suggest it might be? I actually think it hurt itself getting a talon caught in the fence, went to fly and its foot was stuck.(just a guess)

I would say to put it in a shoe box and try to return it to Foot Locker.

It looks like its an adult, is their a wildlife rehab center in your area, they might be able to take it off your hands and nurse it back to health. If its content in the box, it will be alright in there for awhile. Yes - get the worms. Good luck.

There may be millions of them, but it is illegal to harm one. Not sure exactly what fish and game law covers it, but there is one on the books.

...This is the right answer. If there isn't or they won't do anything for whatever reason. You can either choose to try and help it out or let it go.

well, my first thought was put it out of its misery too. it humane in a way.
tried the animal welfare place, went no where. Guess I could buy a cage from them though. they get them turned in all the time with birds and the birds die. I just don't want to drive fourty five minutes to go get the cage.

It doesn't have to be a wildlife rehab center necessarily. Call some local veterinary offices. There's a few here that will take in any injured wild animal for free, and they can take care of getting it rehabbed. There are many individuals who rehab animals that aren't necessarily wildlife rehab "centers".

Check for a local Audubon society rescue person. They are often in people's homes, not official centers. They once helped me with some abandoned mockingbirds.
