Nice. I used to do clouds (and some trees) in oil by scrubbing with a well worn bristle brush.

Yes I did a lot of “scrumming” as they called it in the tutorial. I used a soft brush per the video and probably ruined the bristles with my enthusiastic scrubbing.

That's how I wore down the bristles on this one. Stiff hog brush - I think it as a flat #6 or #4.

Great technique for the fog. It's interesting that you each have done it using totally different brushes - a stiff hog is miles from a soft artist brush.

I recall from my bromoil days using stiff hog bristles to get this effect. But bromoil is working with stiff lithographic inks that have to be rolled out on a hard surface to be able to get lifted up by brush.

This is as close as I got with bromoil for a foggy effect:

After stabbing the print with the brush I got the color from soft pastels. *sniffle* Bromoils were fun, but all the correct darkroom papers needed are discontinued.

I love these pieces. I hope you can find time for more painting once your retirement is official - get yourself a studio space in the new house plans!

The one on the far right is my all time favorite.

Drawing table, easel, a few supplies cabinets, and the paper case will go in, and either my desk or the office table. It's not the ideal spot, but I'll make it work.

Are you kidding?!? That's a GREAT room! Double doors to the outside - you can get anything in there! Very cool. Lots of light. Will make a wonderful studio!

I just didn't feel it was all that big but I only had a quick look. I'll get a better look tomorrow. I've been shopping for gouache; I want to experiment. Maybe only two or three tubes.

A quick loose painting in my mixed media pad. Still on the boat thing .

Below is from a tutorial by the Art Sherpa. I struggle with perspective and balance in this type of scene and am still learning with acrylics how to layer a landscape so this was a good learning experience. The painting itself reminds me of something you would do at a “paint night” fundraiser or something. I’m happy with the mountains and the pine trees. Not crazy about the reflections or the birches. I also don’t really like the streaky sky so I will probably change that if I don’t end up painting over this one.

None so far, but looking at six.

We had time to make a couple measurements in the basement and I came up with a game plan. The “hallway” outside the studio/office and shop is pretty wide so I think I’m going to make the studio/office four feet deeper and the expand the shop by eight feet - just do away with the hall at that end.

You're doing great. Nothing wrong with following tutorials even if you actually don't care for the reference. It's all about playing around with technique, and tutorials are so great for that. I like the mountains as well as the foreground. Good blending to get those pops of color.
