Photography School at night?

I am starting to take my photography much kore serious and now I'm thinking of studying it and earning my degree in it. But, to put it simply, I have a great job that I do not want to walk away from and start all over again, also, I live in NYC so expenses are at a premium already. I know that there are plenty of online programs but I wanted a program that caters to adults who are working and want to earn a degree in Photography. I know I can take plenty of classes randomly throughout the city but again I want to go with a real program, that I might even get financial aide for. Any help in finding this kind of school in the NYC area would be greatly appreciated.

I see Kelby Online Training in alot of photography magazines. I have no idea if it is good or not, although my cousin is considering try it.

If I were you I would see if I could mentor an already seasoned photographer. Getting out and getting your hands dirty is a better way FOR ME to learn rather then sitting in a class room. I just wouldn't pay for school for photography.

Your best bet would be to go into business not photography

If you are going to spend money on night school you are better off spending it on business courses: contracts, book keeping, advertising and marketing, procedural requirements, taxation requirements, etc.. These types of courses geared to the small business owner are usually available at your local community college at very reasonable costs.

How about the New York Institute of Photography? You work at home on your own pace, sending homework when you want.

I took it 11 years ago, now the material is so outdated! I was using an analog slr at the time, I still have the antique material but the basics are still the same whether analog or digital anyway.

I STILL haven't completed the course even after 11 years!

It's worth a look. I really wonder how is it now in the digital era...

Have you looked at PhotoManhattan? I took a few of their courses and thought they were great! Online classes just didn't do it for me, it was nice to be able to go somewhere and have the class in a group setting.

Just start taking photos and post here regularly. You will learn a lot.

I just graduated from the new York institute of photography this month - took their complete professional photography course - I highly recommend it. It's affordable and personally I think you would be wasting your money on a photography degree get a business degree. I have Bach in commerce and now a certificate in photography from NYIP.
