I really like the way this one turned out, but I'm sure there is plenty of room for improvement. Thoughts??

Hmm, my first impression was a studio shot with a fake tree and background.
Not enough natural light ... but that's my opinion.

Thank you for your comments!

From a non portrait guy, it looks fine to me.

Guess I'm not quite a portrait guy yet, then.

Best,

Hey Jake, there are smarter folks then me on here. I can only say if I were handed that from a photographer, I'd frame it and be happy.

I don't think it looks bad at all. I just think it looks like a fake studio background instead of real life outside.

So is that bad or good??

not bad. But I don't do portraits. Putting the background aside, What I did seem to have is my eyes directed away from her which should be the focal point toward the tree. The tree stands out to much.

I think the subject will be happy with it. You did a good job, given the weather conditions. My only suggestion, impression, is that the scene is sort of gloomy and she doesn't really "match" it. Her smile and formality doesn't quite fit with the scene. It's a gorgeously moody scene, but she doesn't quite fit into it. If that makes sense. May have worked better with a serious expression.

That makes perfect sense. Thank you.

probably best to do a full body wide shot on a foggy day because you are showcasing the surrounding.

Robin, why weren't you there when I needed you?!
