sleazy or not sleazy

I was wondering what your thoughts and opinions might be on a situation like this: Suppose you have a friend who is also a photographer and he friend request the girls you been shooting? I mean I go through hoops just to get these girls to shoot with me and while I understand that I;m sure these girls are being shot by other photographers ... I am not requesting them from other photographers that I know. so is that sleazy on his part or is it fair game?

I know many places will strictly not give out contact details of models or clients to the public - that said if you're uploading the photos to facebook and your models are tagging their names in them etc... then its up to them to protect themselves, its not yours.

As for your friend I wouldn't worry about it- its not illegal to friend or talk to people and its the models choice who they do and don't contact as well as if they accept any random friend invites.

O.K. I see where you guys are getting at. No I don't own them but here is the thing... I get turned down by 10 girls before that 1 girls tell s me yes. Im doing all the leg work for somebody else to just step in and say ; "hey I know so and so and... we should shoot together" Shouldn't every one do their own leg work. It's not always fun getting turned down.

Why not ask the other photographer to rustle up some models? Trade yours for his.

How about network with the guy? Local photographers will often network together so that they can share resources and the like, so why not network with him and share contact details of models. Who knows you might pick up some new models.

Another thought is that even if he says he knows you that won't guarantee that the models simply line up to work for him - chances are they are reviewing his portfolio and judging if he can actually give them something. If he can then all's well if not then eh he'll get passed by like the rest.

In the end build up your own portfolio and don't worry about the other photographers and what they do - just focus on your self and locally network with photographers and models to build up your contacts.

Just send the guy a PM and them him that one of the models barfed all over your floor because she was really hung over, but don't tell him which one. That should take care of it.

Who cares if you HAVE found models through other photographers. Who cares if they are found through you?

Someone... somewhere... has shot with that model (or will, if this is their first time), and chances are you decided to shoot them because YOU yourself saw their work with ANOTHER photographer.

The fact that you think it's sleazy, presumably because you feel he is "stealing" her from you is... almost sleazy in and of itself.

It's called networking and some day you'll be on the same end as this guy.

Who is to even say she will say YES to that one guy? And who cares if she does?

I'd be more worried about duder stealing your actual WORK... not shooting with a model that you shot with and somehow feel entitled to.
