What's new

So where does everybody live?

yep, this the old 'where ya from' thread, seems like we gotta lot yanks here (with apologies to carlita )

hahahahaha.... awwww, you remembered. :-D ;-)

i knew what NSW meant, manda. :) do i get a cookie?

*puts on stereotypically-arrogant-texan mask* doesn't everyone know that TX is texas?? what else could it be? *removes mask*

i remember someone on IRC saying they didn't realize houston was a city and not a state i think. i don't remember who it was specifically (probably wouldn't name them here if i DID remember ;-)) but i'm fairly certain they were from the land of oz. :-P

oh and gimpy... i've never actually lived IN houston either. within the city limits i mean. i grew up just outside of southeast houston out around the pearland area. i'm currently living in huntsville for school though... execution capital of the free world!

Yeah, it's just out of habit for me. Springfield, MO = Springfield, Missouri

yes well it makes it hard for those of us non USAians to know where youre talkin bout!

Like I know what 2 letters stand for lol

I should start saying im from the shire, NSW

Figure that one out!

That is true. but come on just about everyone knows about Alaska. It is the place where only those "weird people" live, or so I have heard. I am only glad that Northern Exposure is off the air in most of the States now.

Yeah you guys are right, i mean how many of us USians have sat around trying to figure out what all the two letter codes for the M states are? I know i never get them all.

btw i'm from Shreveport Louisiana

You're right Trog, I don't have a clue what half of them stand for either. I would have assumed that MO = Montana .

Anyway I’m from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

Manda's right; we Yanks come off arrogant considering the number of non-Yanks on this board, we're assuming something like GA must have instant name recognition for them.

I wanna see the shire.....

Well, no, it was a general statement about the net. Its on every board.
Yes, I do actually live in The Shire. The hobbits make me strawberry jam on Sundays.

bwahaha at all of you typing USA afterwards now lol

Carli...I wouldnt know if Houston is a state or city either. All I know is that its where the problems on board space ships get sent to hehe
We don't study the states of America in school here. Our kids have enough trouble with the Aussie states/territories and we only have 7!

oi, the sad state of the world when they start charging $65 to visit hobbit holes in Matamata. Bloody Orc Capitalists...

yorkshire. 8) UK!

I used to live in this tiny old house, with great big holes in the roof.

Yorkshireman2: House? You were lucky to have a HOUSE! We used to live in one room, all hundred and twenty-six of us, no furniture. Half the floor was missing; we were all huddled together in one corner for fear of FALLING!

Yorkshireman3: You were lucky to have a ROOM! *We* used to have to live in a corridor!

Yorkshireman4: Ohhhh we used to DREAM of livin' in a corridor! Woulda' been a palace to us. We used to live in an old water tank on a rubbish tip. We got woken up every morning by having a load of rotting fish dumped all over us! House!? Hmph.

Yorkshireman5: Well when I say "house" it was only a hole in the ground covered by a piece of tarpolin, but it was a house to US.

Yorkshireman2: We were evicted from our hole in the ground; we had to go and live in a lake!

Yorkshireman3: You were lucky to have a LAKE! There were a hundred and sixty of us living in a small shoebox in the middle of the road.

Yorkshireman4: Cardboard box?

Yorkshireman3: Aye.

Yorkshireman4: You were lucky. We lived for three months in a brown paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six o'clock in the morning, clean the bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down mill for fourteen hours a day week in-week out. When we got home, out Dad would thrash us to sleep with his belt!

Yorkshireman2: Luxury. We used to have to get out of the lake at three o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a handful of hot gravel, go to work at the mill every day for tuppence a month, come home, and Dad would beat us around the head and neck with a broken bottle, if we were LUCKY!

Yorkshireman3: Well we had it tough. We used to have to get up out of the shoebox at twelve o'clock at night, and LICK road clean wit' tongues. We had half a handful of freezing cold gravel, worked twenty-four hours a day at the mill for fourpence every six years, and when we got home, our Dad would slice us in two with a bread knife.

Yorkshireman5: Right... I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing "Hallelujah."

Yorkshireman4: But you try and tell the young people today that... and they won't believe ya'.

:D :D :D :D
