Some Black and whites i took

All taken this weekend by me in Auckland New Zealand my aim was to try and get a old school feel

The third one is kind of interesting - it seems the two are a couple, but they're not paying any attention to each other, but rather to their phones, and her pose is a little unusual (and is it still 1986 in Auckland? I haven't seen a stonewashed denim puffy jacket outside of a John Hughes movie since at least then ) But it needs to be cropped. There is no reason for that much sky.

Unfortunately, the others seem to lack a clear purpose. There's not much that is inherently interesting about people walking and going about their business, and that's what I'm seeing in the other shots. I think of street photography as telling a short story - the story of a brief moment that is noteworthy for some reason, (usual poses or faces or outfits or behavior, interactions, graphic relationship with surroundings...), and you've managed to catch it in a photograph. That third one seems like it's trying to tell the story about that couple's relationship. That might be an interesting read. But the others are stories about people just running some errands or going for a jog, things that aren't going to sustain a reader's interest.

I never said that I saw an "old style" because I don't see that at all. What I did say was that seeing pictures of people just walking down the street wasn't particularly interesting. Converting a picture of random people into black and white does not equal "old style street photography." You're going to need to work harder if that is your aim.

I agree with Lenny; black & white does not instantly make any image artistic or interesting as some seem to feel. Something that does strike me after looking at the set is that had you shot them all from behind as the first two, and surrounded by tall buildings, it might have made for a more cohesive set.

I agree with Both of you that black & white does not instantly make any image artistic or interesting, its a combo of things and right now in todays time these may seem uninteresting in the matter that they are just doing boring day to day stuff but if you take a look at some work done meany years ago by some of the best known street photographers a lot of there work back then was just good old boring day to day stuff, oO

Image 4 does tell a story of sorts with the slightly OOF sign that says, "It's Business as Usual," as this couple is clearly engaged in an act of normal everyday, business as usual and in Image 3, two people standing in immediate proximity to each other and yet texting (apparently) others, also tells a far too common story. Image 2, while not being particularly story-worthy, does provide a sense of the unknown as to what happens when she hits the top of that "hill" or "ramp"...that I like.

Some comments, take them or leave them. I say this a a person that likes negative space, there is too much negative space.

Isn't that style starting to come back? I thought I saw some of it in Williamsburg a few weeks ago.
