Sub-Adult Sharpie

Were you using a teleconverter for these shots? They look fantastic. Well done. I have a couple Red Tails and Coopers that like to hang out and hunt in my back yard but I've only ever seen them way up in the trees or circling. Though I know they've caught many lunches in my yard! I hope I see them on the ground one day.
This is with a 2x TC on the Sigma 120-300 EX OS (non sport). I've been having a ***** of a time getting the AF fine tune just right. I was stopped down to F10 on this one to make sure I didn't miss focus and I had a bunch of light to play with...

Nice set. Thats about as good of light as your ever going to get. You must have been saying "stop, sit right there, oh thank you, thank you"
You're not kidding, I went to a spot that occasionally has Snowy Owls, as I was leaving the boat launch I saw this little guy sitting in a tree. Put the window down praying he would stay there!

That's it, I'm ordering a 7100 right now !!!!
Love #3, attack mode, just fantastic !!!!!
EDIT:
Adorama has a decent deal or refurbs, should be here by the end of the week
Wow, cool, you aren't messing around! Make sure you get a pair of Sandisk 95 mb/s cards. Turn off all the crap (ADL, NR, ETC) and I have switched to 12 bit compressed. I mentioned in MatthewO post that I can get 17 frames in 4 seconds which isn't too bad and it will keep chugging away around 3 FPS after that. I also recommend shooting at a faster shutter speed than normal. The pixel density of the camera is demanding.

A bird... huh. I was expecting something more like this.
:) LMAO

Thanks for the tips

I typically shoot a D800 so I have lots of really big and really fast cards. I really like Lexar Pro 1000x CF in the D800 but I have a few of the Sandisk Extreme Pro SD cards for the backup slot so I can use those. If you ever get up to MA to shoot I have over 1600 acres of Wildlife Management area at the end of my street, it goes by the name Burrage Pond - Great Cedar Swamp. They rearranged the water flow at the end of last year, they want to attract even more species of birds :D

Not up to the quality of your work but it gives an idea of what's there.

Tack sharp as always! Even the full crop turned out fantastic!
