Almost missed him. They are about the same size as a Blue Jay. This is the first one I have gotten that wasn't flying like 1/2 mile away. And holy crap, there was actually sunshine briefly today to warm up the balmy 12 degree morning.. Comments welcome..

Lovely mate, I'd like to get some pics of wild birds of prey. Saw quite a few last year but unfortunatley they were too far away or we were in the car and past them too quick or there was no where to stop. Sod's law I suppose.

awesome. Very nice.
Exceptional as always. Sharp shinned Hawks are supposed to be native to the Island but I've never seen one.

Thank you all! They really are much smaller than a cooper's hawk for sure...

Sweet. I wish the Sun would have cooperated here today. How close were you approx.?

I dug out the exif info and I was 33 feet away. Someone asked in another forum so I will share it here about how much you can crop a D7100... Of course everything has to go right :)
This is the same scene completely uncropped.

That strong light and that camera and lens are creating a sort of 3-D look... STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!

Did you forget to take off your 3d glasses? :)

Were you using a teleconverter for these shots? They look fantastic. Well done. I have a couple Red Tails and Coopers that like to hang out and hunt in my back yard but I've only ever seen them way up in the trees or circling. Though I know they've caught many lunches in my yard! I hope I see them on the ground one day.

Nice set. Thats about as good of light as your ever going to get. You must have been saying "stop, sit right there, oh thank you, thank you"

That's it, I'm ordering a 7100 right now !!!!

Love #3, attack mode, just fantastic !!!!!

EDIT:

Adorama has a decent deal or refurbs, should be here by the end of the week

LOL! You were serious. Honestly I've been going back and forth on whether to get one or not and posts like this certainly don't hurt the get one side of the internal argument.
