We've been ronin for years. Not for everyone. Business/finance and academe involved portable skills/expertise. Finally settled now but still engaged=best of both? If life's a house always under construction, we've just added a couple new rooms--maybe a new wing--hah!

We went to Mexico last month and I almost didn't take my camera this trip. Seems we go to the same places and what is new to shoot? I only took one lens, the 35mm. Many years we traveled around the Yucatan, but getting older it is nice to relax.

A few days after we got home I came down with this horrible head cold. I had 2 photo sessions planned and had to cancel. Too bad because the weather was perfect. I set up my Xmas set last month and did the pups photos freshly groomed. Today, I decided to swap out the flooring from wood pattern to stone. The set has vertical and horizontal lines. It was too busy and hard to get square with the lines in the flooring. My floor is 3 large printed boards very heavy. One side is a wood pattern which I have used. To change things up I use the Better Than Paper which sells as a bulletin board paper for teachers. Very heavy paper and looks real.

Guess it's why I got the little Fujifilm X-100T and Ricoh GR II some years ago: top shelf image makers whose pocketability made 'em perfect for my style. Never entirely comfortable with the photo-nerd habit of toting a big-a$$ bag on the street where I stood out, as Raymond Chandler said, "like a tarantula on a slice of angle food cake." Certain you'll get your always-pleasing sets scoped out.

Last two trips we've been on, took my gear but never got it out.

In general, I carry a GF3 (M4/3 body) with a prime lens on it. If I am doing something where I expect to encounter photo-ops, then I'll probably take something better. The GF3 (the worst 12MP sensor ever used in a M4/3 body) has a chance of taking a low quality picture. That's about all. But it's better than nothing. I don't have a cellphone account, so I don't carry a cell phone.

I have some light street options, and a good cellphone, but the "motivation" to shoot anything is low. As Cheryl said above....it's nice to just relax and enjoy the moment.

November 10 & 11

November 10, 2025 is the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald which was marked by the Gordon LIghtfoot song.

As for Remembrance Day (November 11), I have continued my previous reading of Pierre Burton's book "Vimy" with another 2 - 4 min. this year. All I've read can be looked on as "pre-amble" description of some of the people. Because the book is still copyright, I don't want to read much more. "Vimy" was the turning point of the war where Canadians landed on a beach that the Germans had guarded with large guns in bunkers on a ridge -- essentially an escarpment. The waters beyond the beach had defenses against landing. The Allied command estimated the number who would die, and that's what happened. A lot of men died, but the beach was taken, and the German's were pushed out.
