Just dropping in to the house say “Hi. I went down to Kittery last weekend to do some window shopping at an outlet that carries fly fishing gear, clothing and some bird hunting gear. I am interested in a fly rod and reel and prefer their 25 year warranty. Never again will I go to Kittery during the summer. Traffic was as bad as DC! Luckily the store wasn’t with the rest of the outlets and I could actually park.

Wouldnt't happen to be Kittery Trading Post was it? I will make a 3 hour trip south for them! I have been stopping there for over 25 years now. Found them while we used Pease Airport in Portsmouth when we were flying out of Boston. Company would have ot take the plane to PSM when were not not flying, BOS didn't have enough parking spaces during the week. We found KTP probably the first weekend in Portsmouth. Oh, and Newicks Resturant.

Another hellishly hot day in North Texas. I walked past the hall thermostat yesterday afternoon, and it was registering 85F and that left me scratching my head. Turns out that somehow my echo speaker thermometer got turned on and was sending data to the thermostat, the problem being that it was being hit by the sun a warming it up. I removed it from the sensor list to keep the AC from running non-stop, since we keep the thermostat at 75F.

On the "searching for relocation opportunities" I found what for us would be the perfect place in the country, and that is Johnson City, TN. No income tax, low cost of living, highs rarely climb past 85, usually no deep snow in the winter, and most importantly, proximity to good health care options for the Spousal Unit. I did a search initially for locations that are cool in the summer and mild in the winter, but everything was on the West Coast, with its high taxes and expensive cost of living. When I added cost of living requirements, medical facilities, affordable housing, and tolerable temps, Johnson City came up on the radar, and Blacksburg, VA. Altitude generally keeps those places cooler in the summer. Now I just have to convince my better three-quarters...

We live near Bangor ME. Out window A/C units are on 69! Mostly to control humidity. Also have to run a dehumidifier in the basement all summer. Electric bill doubles in the summer. But at the point we want to be comfortable.

I can handle cold much easier than the heat. I lived in FL for 4 1/2 years. Loved the winters, hated the summers. I grew up in MI and had no a/c as a kid. But once I was on my own, there's been a/c at least for sleeping.

No, Orvis outlet. For us, so far, Kittery is just the first thing we see when we cross the green bridge coming home. We'll get down in the off season and explore.

LLBean fly rods are good from entry level to top of the line. And the Bean warranty still rules.

I think they are running one year on the streamlight series. I have a five-weight fly/light spin set from MLW a few years ago. Definitely a contender for the nine-weight.

I used to work summers in Allagash and would stop at Kittery for lobster on the way north.
Then about a decade later, I worked at the University of New Hampshire and once again
would go to Kittery for lobster quite often. Most of my career was in Alaska which
was great but after retiring we got tired of dealing with snow and moved to Montana.

Ugh! It just gets hotter and hotter and hotter. My plants are giving up left and right, because they just can't handl triple digits. Currently 107F/41.6C at 17:30. Can't even imagine what the heat index is right now.

That's awful. No, the garden plants weren't made for that kind of heat!

Texas nurseries will have to start stocking plants that will grow in, say, Mexico! Hopefully this heat dome you're under will move out soon.

I'm putting together a couple drawings and materials list for a stand. My first thought was sinking a couple posts into the ground and bolting cross beams in a "T" format, then add some eye-screw on the ends of the cross-beams for securing with line or bungee cords. After going down and looking closer at the area they will go, I think I want something stand-alone. I'm wavering between PVC pipe and lumber. PVC will hold up longer, but it's more expensive. In the meantime, I'm going to try to get one out on the water next week if the weather allows. Even if I just go to the park and back (less than 1/2 mile; about 700 meters). I took a discovery class Bean a couple years ago when the 'yaks were given to me. Between the work going into selling the house, buying this place, moving, and MLSIL's hospital stay, I haven't been able to get on the water.

It's been a birdy kind of weekend:
* I heard the bald eagle yesterday.
* The GBH was back on the dock, this morning.
* There are some ducks I haven't identified though I think they may be black ducks.
* I hear the loon(s) daily but still haven't seen them.
* Male and female cardinals were on the deck railing at the same time, getting peanuts.
* A dark eyed junco has been here pounding at the peanuts. It sounded like someone knocking at the door.
* We had a juvenile blue jay on the deck yesterday.

Howdy Hosers! I hope everyone is well. I’ve been gardening, reading and traveling a lot this summer, at some point I’ll have many many pics to share. The nights have been cooler this week and we had a couple of inches of rain yesterday. Looking forward to fall.
