Good morning, hosers.

Autumn is close. The temps are a bit lower; we closed the glass door to the deck the other night and I pulled out a flannel shirt for yesterday's morning doctor visit. MLW and I are loving it.

The ringed kingfisher was on the pole at the end of the little dock, yesterday, the bald eagle was spotted down at the boat ramp (~290 yards / 270 m) and the hummingbird has been here a few times since the weekend. When we came back from the doctor, yesterday, the hummingbird was at the cardinal plant by the front porch. Rather than chance scaring her, MLW and I just stood and watched her until she flew off. This morning, she was hovering at the bedroom window. I'm looking for a nice feeder.

You will, of course, be adding benches, wall racks and a car lift, right?

Well, I do have a big shelving unit on the other side of the garage that the previous owner built. Car lift, I wish. I do have a large jack and stands to get my Mustang's close to 2 feet off the ground and a nice padded creeper. And I have some peg board to hang on the wall as well. Still have to find my vise and attach to the work bench.

Another hot day here. 100 everyday this week. This coming weekend is the Paint Louis graffiti event at the flood wall. Looks like it will still be hot, but hope it won't feel hot with humidity. I like to go on day 2 around 5 pm for the evening light.

This year's backdrop arrived today. I'll have it set up in November for friends and family. This year is elegant. I alternate rustic every other year. Last year had red barn doors and the photos popped. I sent a screen shot of the backdrop to the moms so they can get the xmas outfits to co-ordinate. With it being 100 it is hard to think of winter. I organized my props recently and may pick up a few things. I try to add one or two things a year and then recycle my inventory. I had stuff everywhere in the finished area of the basement. We had the carpet cleaned so I had to move all the props.

Was forecast 95°f chance of thunderstorms. Now 89°f and severe thunderstorms. Man the forecasts have gotten unreliable. 24 hours used to be pretty spot on, no more.

Oh, I'm sorry you're stuck with these temps all week. We're at 97°F right now, but it's supposed to drop back into the usual 80s tomorrow. Humidity has been nasty! Gotta hope for a thunderbuster to break the pattern.

Your new backdrop sounds like fun! It's good of you to send it to everyone in advance - should be nice sessions. Agree that it's hard to wrap the mind around winter clothing while you're hiding inside with the A/C going!

It's currently 69/21 and going down to 60/15. I just got the lumber cut for the 'yak rack; I'll haul it to the bottom and put it together this weekend, when it isn't supposed to rain.

It’s been sweatah weathah here the past couple of days with rain and cooler temps, even made a beef stew Tuesday, but we are going back to sunny days this coming weekend. I’m looking forward to fall, the absolute best time of year here in New England! Even the ridiculous pumpkin spicing of everything can’t ruin it for me.

Howdy Hosers! Thanks to a tropical disturbance from the Gulf of Mexico the temperatures plummeted into the upper 80's at night to upper 90's during the day (currently 88F/31C with a heat index of 97F/36C due to that wonderful humidity), so we are breaking out the parkas, heavy gloves, and mukluks at this time. May have to turn on the heater...

In other news, many of my blooming plants are gone and my Hostas and Mojito Elephant Ears just shriveled up. Hoping they will come back when the temps are actually not in the furnace range. The dwarf Zinnias and the Lantana are holding up but the Lantana is not blooming. The Vinca are also surviving with copious amounts of water. Next year I'll be planting more Dwarf Zinnias for sure, since they don't seem to be bothered by the heat. Another surprise is that the Eastern Cottonwood I planted in the corner of the yard is doing ok even though it is a "wet bottoms" tree that normally grow along river, pond, and lake banks, but it doesn't seem to be stressing too much and has only lost a few leaves. It has reached 20' in height and now provides some shade in the late afternoon. The Crepe Myrtel also seems to be doing ok.

Still too hot to go for photo walks. Don't need to provide extra work for EMS, they already have enough on their hands. I am thinking about visiting some of the art galleries that DFW has to offer, but they frown on cameras other than cell phones being present.

It's amazing that you still have anything still holding up after the temps you've had. Glad that tropical disturbance pushed cooler temps your way - did you get rain out of it, too?

From my years in Georgia, vinca was always reliable, as well as Lantana. Quite a few were gone by August unless I potted them and kept them in the screened-in porch.

We've had some chill nights here in the last few weeks but that meant lows dipping into the 50s°F.

The bigger story has been the non-stop thunderstorm systems that have been rolling through here since Wednesday night. Things finally calmed down this afternoon, but not before 300,000 people lost power. I was very lucky - triggering memories of the last holiday weekend (July 4th) when a short thunderstorm knocked out our power for three days, but aside from several flickers we were fine.

It's humid and icky atm, but temps are fine: 78°F atm. Should be warm and sunny for the Labor Day weekend.

Hellish storms Wed. barrelled through S. Ontario. Multiple small tornadoes and wind gusts. Lost 1/2 of a 70ft silver maple now gently reclining on the back roof. An old juniper broke its fall. No apparent damage. Tree service guys either went fishin' early for the Labour Day long weekend or are busy with emerg work. No removal likely till late next week. No power outages. Beer temps cold and stable--all results of blessings from a former life I've happily squandered.

You all caught the same system(s) that hammered SE Michigan starting Wednesday night. Didn't stop raining until yesterday afternoon.

We have a few limbs in the backyard, and my giant sunflowers took a beating from all the wind, but nothing like half a tree! Glad there's no major damage, and we didn't lose power, either. (About 300K was the final total, I think.)

A tornado was confirmed down in Detroit, so all the screaming sirens seem more justified!
