What's at the sheep & wool festival? some nice wool fiber for felting? wool roving? Bet I'd like it.

The Sheep and Wool festival is geared mostly towards folks that do fiber arts - knitting, crocheting, felt art, etc, as well as wooled goods: socks, sweaters, hats.. They had some sheep competitions, like at agricultural fairs and shearing demonstrations as well as some family activities and workshops. There were a few wood crafting vendors (yes, I got some ideas) and a couple local potteries. There was aslo a couple vendors selling lamb & mutton meats (we passed on that).

No mud puddles so I've decided to make a sign to put on the truck at the shine & show: "Pavement Princess, Mall Crawler Extraordonaire." I might try to dig up some shopping bags and load them into the bed.

You'd dig the fall sheepdog trials in E. Ontario. Sheep to shawl competitions, pro-to-novice dogs, and usually some nice bbq lamb products on the grills. They're back this year after a 3yr hiatus. My all-time fave from some years ago was a rookie collie who dutifully herded his flock into the park's ladies' washroom instead of the competition pen.

Last weekend here in Jackson, Wyoming they had the `shed` auction. People with permits were allowed to find antlers that have been shed by animals over winter.
I had NO idea they were so valuable! Auction prices can be $17-20 A Pound! So elk antlers weighing 20+ lbs is quite a payday for someone!!

The Boy Scouts of Wyoming had 1st access to the refuge a week before regular permit holders. The Boy Scouts made $280,000 !!
I hear they are one of the 'richest' chapters.

I didn't get the "Pavement Princess" sign made but still had a good time. The Potbellies and Pints was fun and held at a great location, the Bif Truck Farm & Brewery. The day was cool but overcast, and the rain held off until we were almost home. I won an acrylic painting of one of the rescued pigs (Lulu, the Diva) in the raffle. The painting is being held by MLSIL, Ada whe enjoyed herself as well.

Wow, that's really interesting! I had no idea that shed antlers could be so valuable. It's great to hear that the Boy Scouts of Wyoming were able to make such a significant amount of money through this opportunity. It's always nice to see organizations and communities benefitting from natural resources in a sustainable and responsible way. Do you know if there are any regulations or guidelines in place to ensure that the collection of shed antlers is done in an ethical manner?

There is a permit application/lottery.
Next year, I think my understanding is non-Wyoming people will have to wait an extra week to collect. ( They are not happy)

They do patrol the Elk Refuge to watch. There is a big fine for taking the antlers illegally. Even in the National Park boundaries, you are required to leave them in place. Other little creatures eat on them for nutrition.
The 'tourist' vans who take people in the Park, may have an antler but have to have a registration that this is an educational antler already logged.

So the next time you're on vacation and see an antler chandelier or lamp, you'll know it's worth $$$$

Does the park in downtown still have antler arch. If they do I’m surprised it hasn’t been stolen at those prices.

The world is going off the rails. The mall in Allen is a 15 minute drive from here, much too close to home, but really, anyplace on the planet is too close to home. I just don't understand the human penchant for violence. What does it solve? What does it achieve? Then some high school kids thought it would be fun to cause a panic in the Stonebirar Mall, which is a ten minute drive from here. If it were one of my kids, they'de be losing everything electronic plus car keys for at least a month.

In Biblical times, people were slaughtered by the thousands, how many Jewish people died at Hitlers hand, 800,000 people in Rwanda in just 100 days in 64, and the list goes on and on. TV coverage plays a part also, when I was a kid people killed each other, it just wasn't publicized on 24/7 media circuses.

Then there's the book of Revelations......are we nearing the end of time???? Quoting from an article I read by the EU Commission back in 2022, archaeologists have characteristics they look for that signal the decline of civilisations - disruption to trade routes, shifts in supply and demand, disease, environmental degradation, and extreme political dysfunction. Any of those sound familiar?

In Biblical times, people were slaughtered by the thousands, how many Jewish people died at Hitlers hand, 800,000 people in Rwanda in just 100 days in 64, and the list goes on and on. TV coverage plays a part also, when I was a kid people killed each other, it just wasn't publicized on 24/7 media circuses.

Friends of the family live near there. Scary times we are living in.
